About Leipzig slumbered a great treasure of previously unknown film footage in the archives, which we would like to make accessible to all Leipzigers and Leipzig lovers. The selected films illustrate a small time travel through the 20th century of the city. Among them are rediscovered films showing Leipzig's city life and cityscape before its destruction in World War II. The post-war period is illustrated in documentaries from the GDR era, some of which praise the achievements of socialism with much pathos. All contributions from the most diverse political and historical perspectives the changeful history of the city of Leipzig. In addition to its cinematic content, each film also documents its own "individual biography".
